Final Mite B Tryout
by posted 04/29/2010

The Wonderland Wizards will be hosting a free late August tryout to fill out the Mite B team.  This team will follow the recently posted CHC guidelines for Mite B teams and will play a minimum of 15 cross ice games through November 1st, then target 25 full ice games with local teams to minimize travel requirements.  As the CHC changes allow for only two travel teams (so no Mite Select team), this will be the only other travel team on the Mite level. The team will be coached by Doug Banquer, former Fairfield Prep/University of Connecticut player, and seasoned youth hockey coach.  Please check the website in early August for the exact timing.

Tryout fees for current team members will be credited toward their tuition

Earn Credit Towards 2010 - 2011 Travel or House Dues (fees)
by posted 02/28/2010

$$$$      Discount      $$$$

REDUCE THE OUT-OF-POCKET COST FOR YOUR CHILD’S HOCKEY DUES (FEES)

Earn Credit Towards 2010-2011 Travel or House Hockey Dues (fees) by shopping through the Wizards’ Virtual Shopping Mall.

Saving money is simple:
For every purchase made through the Wizards Mall, receive a 25%* credit of the “Cash-Back” amount rebated by the retailer to the Wizards. Provided that you submit the appropriate information (see below), the Wizards will apply the credit towards your child’s 2010-2011 fees.

Where/How to start:
  • Do all of your online shopping through the Wizards’ Virtual Shopping Mall
    • Either access the Mall through the Wonderland Wizards’ Home Page (entrance located on the upper right hand side of the page) or by going to www.wizardsmall.org.
  • Through this site you will be able to access over 1,000 retailers that will provide the Wizards with “Cash-Back” on each purchase. The Wizards will share that “Cash-Back” amount proportionately with each family, provided that all appropriate paperwork has been submitted with the Purchase Credit Form (PCF).
How it works:
  • 100% of the “Cash-Back” will go to the Wizards.
  • Complete the Purchase Credit Form (“PCF” - located within the “Documents” section of the Wizards Home Page)
  • Enclose the completed PCF and copies of each internet purchase receipt in a sealed envelope and submit (drop in the Wizards mailbox at the rink).
Credits will accrue for qualifying purchase made from November 1st, 2009 through August 2010. Purchase made through the Wizards Mall prior to establishment of the Credit for Purchases program will be credited retroactively (at 25%) provided that you submit all necessary the information outlined on the PCF.

Here are just a couple of ways to get the biggest bang-for-the-buck:
  • Have your entire family, relatives and friends shop via the Wizards’ Mall and ask them to submit their information via the PCF and reference your child’s name on the PCF Form.
  • Reach out to local businesses to do their purchasing (Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, etc.) through the Wizards Mall and submit the PCF Form with your child’s name referenced. Think of this as your own personal Sponsor.
  • Find a local contractor making significant purchases at The Home Depot. Ask them to purchase Home Depot Gift Cards/Certificates through the Wizards’ Mall and submit the PCF Form with your child’s name referenced. Think of this contractor as your own personal Sponsor.
Use the Wizards’ Mall for all your online purchase and experience the benefit of buying through the Wizards’ Virtual Mall

* WWYHA may, at their discretion, raise or lower the percentage that will be credited to each family for qualifying purchases. Any changes to the “credit” amount will be communicated via emails from WWYHA or announcements on the organization’s home page.

Welcome to Wonderland Wizards - ImPACT Test Concussion Managemen
by posted 08/21/2009

Welcome to Wonderland Wizards - ImPACT Test Concussion Management Program

The Wonderland Wizards have contracted ImPACT Applications, Inc. to provide a Concussion Management Program which has an online tool to a establish a Baseline for the Concussion Management Program.

NO ADOLESCENT WITH A CONCUSSION SHOULD CONTINUE TO PLAY OR RETURN TO A GAME AFTER SUSTAINING A CONCUSSION.

The ImPACT Test is a neuro-cognitive test that is one piece of the puzzle used in assessing recovery from concussions and determining the timing of return to play. It should only be used as a tool, and should not be the only deciding factor in returning a concussed athlete to play. It provides objective data and prevents athletes who hide their symptoms from returning to play before they are fully recovered.

The ImPACT Test is used by the NFL, NHL, and other professional sports organizations. It is used by many universities and is now recommended by some states for high school students. This test is recommended by the CIAC in Connecticut to be used as a baseline in Connecticut high schools.

For additional information on concussions or the ImPACT Test, visit:

                Wizards ImPACT Test - FAQ

Please use the following link for baseline testing:
 http://www.impacttestonline.com/impactteams
  • The athlete must be well rested and ready to concentrate for 20 min.  The test environment MUST BE free of any & all distractions.
  • The computer must have a traditional mouse.  Trackballs and touch pads will not provide accurate results.
  • If you are taking your exam on a laptop computer, make sure it is plugged into an electrical outlet and is not running on battery power.
  • Please close any applications other than ImPACT that are currently running on the computer.
The ImPACT testing process is made up of three components:

        - Gathering background information
        - Indicating current symptoms and conditions
        - Completion of the analysis modules

The information for the first two components can be gathered and entered by the exam supervisor/parent. The third component should be completed by the athlete.
